Dr Brendan Butler

Dr Butler graduated from Monash University in 1975.He completed internship at Prince Henrys Hospital, Melbourne in 1976.
In 1977 he travelled to the United Kingdom where he commenced training in Anaesthesia at St Georges Hospital, London as a Senior House Officer gaining valuable experience in a wide range of anaesthesia specialties. He returned to Australia and completed his Anaesthesia training at Prince Henrys, Austin, Repatriation General Hospital, Preston and Northcote Community Hospital, Mercy Maternity and Royal Children’s Hospital with 6 to 12 month rotations at each hospital. He obtained a Specialist Qualification in Anaesthesia in 1982 and then spent a year as a Staff Anaesthetist at Repatriation General Hospital, Heidelberg to gain further experience
Dr Butler joined Albert Street Anaesthetic Group in 1984. He was Chairman from 2000 to 2010, He has held appointments at Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women and Austin Hospital with particular interests in Anaesthesia for Cleft Lip and Palate repair in children, anaesthesia for Oral and Faciomaxillary surgery, Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia and Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr Butler has served on the Surgical Committee of Interplast Australia from 1998 to 2014 advising on reconstructive plastic surgery in the third world. He participated in programmes to Papua New Guinea and China with a major focus on cleft lip and palate repair and burns surgery.
Dr Butler is a member of the Australian Medical Association and the Australian Society of Anaesthetists. He participates in the Quality Assurance program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
